Lesson 2: The Power of Releasing

“You must begin to understand, therefore, that the present state of your bank account, your sales, your health, your social life, your position at work, etc., is nothing more than the physical manifestation of your previous thinking. If you sincerely wish to change or improve your results in the physical world, you must change your thoughts, and you must change them IMMEDIATELY.” –Bob Proctor

Now that you are becoming more aware of What Makes You Tick (Lesson 1)…

You will be able to identify and Release any toxic negative emotions or beliefs that create road blocks to your success in your business and personal life. As you embark on any positive change it is typical to feel excited, positive and energized but as we hit our first stumbling blocks – when things don’t seem to be working out the way we had planned – it is not uncommon to become aware of competing thoughts (objections), such as Who are you kidding? You’re never going to be rich or See? Haven’t I always told you have bad luck? What works for others doesn’t work for you.

These kind of thoughts are bubbling up because of fear and they try to pull you back to the place you were comfortable in…a place where you aren’t challenged and don’t feel scared.  If you stay there, YOU WILL NEVER REACH YOUR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL AND WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THE LIFE YOU DREAM OF. The most successful people in the world will feel terrified at times BUT they feel the fear and do what they need to do to achieve their goals anyway!

It is the purpose of this lesson to help you realize that as you start making positive changes in your life, you may feel negative feelings designed to hold you back in a place where you feel safe – even if “safe” isn’t a great place to be.

Thousands of years ago, fear was our body’s way of signaling us that we were out of our comfort zone. It alerted us to possible danger, and gave us the burst of adrenaline we needed to run away. Unfortunately, though this response was useful in the days when saber-toothed tigers were chasing us, today most of our threats are not all that life threatening. Today, fear is more of a signal that we must stay alert and cautious. We can feel fear and still move forward.  Acknowledge that fear exists but don’t let it hold you back from making positive changes in your life.  A good place to begin moving forward towards our goals is to write down our thoughts and feelings as discussed in Lesson 1.  If you can become aware of what specific thoughts are causing you fear, stress, frustration etc. You can stop and use a simple process to put things in perspective and re-program your thoughts and though you may still feel the fear of change, you will be aware and continue to move forward no matter what.

Assignment: This week when you become aware of a negative or limiting belief just take yourself through the process below:

Here is a simple technique for releasing that is a version of the Sedona Method (see www.sedona.com): The Basic Releasing QuestionsOur tendency is to resist or ignore these feelings or thoughts and doing that just keeps them around under the surface to pop at a later time.  All you have to do is let yourself fully experience the accompanying feeling and then release it. Most people find that closing their eyes helps them to focus more clearly on their feelings. Letting go is a choice that you make.  That hardest part of releasing is making the choice to do it.

What am I feeling right now? – Focus on whatever feeling arises as you experience your negative or limiting belief.

Could I welcome it and allow it? –Just welcome the feeling and let it be as best you can.

Could I let it go? –Ask yourself the question Could I let this go? Yes and no are both acceptable answers.

Would I let it go? –Ask yourself, Am I willing to let this go? If the answer is no, or you just aren’t sure, ask yourself, Would I rather have this feeling or would I rather be free? Even if you would rather have the feeling, go on to the next question.

When? –Ask yourself, When? This is just an invitation to let it go now. Remember that letting go is a decision you can make anytime you choose. If you are ready to release thoughts and beliefs, try writing down all of your negative thoughts on a piece of paper.  Write all of your new positive counter-beliefs (opposite of the original belief) on another piece of paper. Destroy the negative beliefs by tearing the paper up and putting it the waste basket.

Keep your positive beliefs where you will see them each day and read them aloud to yourself once a day. (It’s best to say your affirmations to yourself in the mirror)

Some examples of positive thoughts (affirmations) are:

I am making positive choices about what to do with my life

I can do many things right, and each time I try something new, I learn and get better.

People love to pay me for what I love to do.

Money comes frequently and easily to me.

Just keep repeating the proceeding steps as often as needed until you feel free of that particular feeling. We all have control over the choices we make each and every day.  We have the choice to make the decision NOW to box up the old beliefs and toxic emotions and pack that box away for good!

 Please answer the following questions…

Again, as in lesson 1, ask yourself what it would take for you to feel empowered to live your best life…feeling complete in all areas? What would that look like? How would that feel? Write it down….

(Answer the questions below later in the week when you have gone through the releasing process)

1.  How did you feel when you ripped up the piece of paper with your negative thoughts and beliefs?

2. How do you feel after you repeat your affirmations aloud?

Now that you have self awareness and have made the choice to release limiting beliefs and stressors by going through the Releasing Process you will move forward in life.  (You may need to go through this lesson each month to stay aware of thoughts and feelings that can get in the way of your success and happiness)

Congratulations for completing this lesson… you are now ready to move onto lesson 3…Cleaning House
