Lesson 7: Staying On Purpose

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan but also believe.”

Last week you learned how to create a Game Plan.  You created a daily to-do list which will move you farther and faster towards your goals.

It’s important to have a plan of action but even more important is Staying on Purpose and following through with what you set out to accomplish.  So many of us have big dreams and great ideas, but we don’t take action or we start to take action and then fall off track; our WHY is not big enough.  The power to do what needs to be done getting up early, staying up late, and working from the heart comes from knowing your purpose and your reasons for doing what you do.

When you are Staying on Purpose, your WHY is so strong and your HOW falls into place.   This is easier said than done for some people.  Having goals and dreams is one thing – being able to Stay On Purpose, focused and motivated to achieve and work towards them every day is another.  What does your ideal life look like to you?  Too many of us never deeply examine that question. What keeps you grounded/focused and staying on purpose?

It’s time to get focused on the present…  It’s so easy to get caught up in being really busy all the time.  Look at what is in front of you and keep it really simple.  Do what resonates in your heart and ask yourself “Am I staying on Purpose?”  If it’s in your heart and soul then it’s true.

As you are on the path to success, you are a different person than you were 5 years ago.  You think differently, act differently and see the things around you differently because we are all constantly growing and evolving.  What can you do right now, today, at this very moment to begin to change your life and bring it more on purpose with that which you would like to see in your life?  Make an effort to focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want.   What we think about, we bring about!  Focus on where you want to go, not on where you think you might go if things don’t work out well. Focus on the best possible outcome, even if you don’t yet know how to get from here to there. As soon as you notice that your thoughts are going in directions that vary with your purpose, focus, and choose to change the direction of those thoughts.  It is absolutely your choice to focus differently.  In making that choice, changes will begin to happen in your life and you will feel yourself staying on purpose.

Use what you have learned in lessons 1-6 to Stay On Purpose:

Wipe clean the patterns that cause you to put things off.  You probably have heard many people saying, “So many things to do and not enough time to do them.”  Even though that may be true, you still have to complete them all, especially if these things help you to reach your goals.  To make it easier for you, just pick up one thing you have to do and focus on that task until it is done.  It’s best to tackle the biggest or toughest tasks first.  When it is done, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and it will motivate you to move on to your next task.  This could be as simple as finishing the last chapter in a book, sewing the button on your shirt that is driving you nuts.  Think back to the lesson where you finish little 10-minute jobs…  You will feel a sense of clarity and it makes it easier to really focus on what must be done.

Take a moment to put things in order. Doing things like this in other areas of your life will help you keep things in priority and keep you focused on your goals.  I know as soon as I clean off my desk, file my bills and keep things tidy I feel so good inside that I am able to focus.

Think positive thoughts to attract what it is you desire in your life and break through your old ways.  If you find yourself at times having a negative attitude, you must realize that the way you look at things can make all the difference when it comes to reaching your goals.  Even when obstacles stand in your way, maintaining a positive attitude, not a negative one and knowing that things can and will get better, will help you stay on track in reaching your goals.  Phrasing things in a positive context will be what you attract into your life.  Instead of saying “I will be debt free.”  Say… I have an abundance of money and am able to help others.”

Everything in life, if it is worth it, will take time to accomplish.  This goes for the goals you set for yourself.  When you set goals, you should set two types of goals such as, short term and long term goals that we discussed in the last lesson.  You must realize that you are not going to reach your long-term goals in two weeks.  Whatever your goals may be, only through laser focus, determination and keeping yourself focused and on purpose, is the way you will eventually reach your goals.

To create/alter a new path for yourself you must constantly clear any negative beliefs about yourself.  Reading articles, books or even listening to cd’s/DVD’s on motivation will greatly help, if you want to keep yourself focused on your goals.  Many successful people will tell you that even when they wanted to give up and throw in the towel, and a paragraph in a book or something a motivational speaker said put them back on the right track and helped them reach their goals.  This goes back to lesson 1 – Becoming Aware of Yourself.  If you focus each day on You, then there will be focus, determination, motivation, and ultimately the achievement of your goals.

Below are three points that really help keep one Staying On Purpose, focused and concentrated to achieve their goals.
